Over the weekend we spent some time going over the engine on the RS125 and we discovered a few things. For starters, the ring began to stick from the last trackday. That’s odd because we’ve never had ring-stick in the past. However, we also had never struggled so badly during a trackday weekend either (remember, http://www.tribudeichihuahua.com/?p=20).
The ring sticking caused the cylinder’s plating to begin to deteriorate and now we need to get the cylinder plated. This is going to be an expensive proposition, as there appears to be no-one in the US that can do it well, or accurately-enough as HRC. The only other option is getting a new cylinder which is about $750.00… WOW, yes… WOW.
So right now we’re trying to see if there is anyone in Japan or Europe that can do it for a reasonable price. We are trying to weigh the issue of them doing it, plus shipping overseas to just buying a new one. We’ll see what works out best.
The other problem we found was the crank may need replacing. This crank has not been as good as our first crank. On the first crank we went for a few miles longer than spec with no issues. In fact, our mechanic seemed to think we could have gone even longer with that crank. The problem of course, it cranks don’t really have a wear indicator, so when they go, they GO.
I’ve put in an order for a new crank, but now we need to wait to see if it will get here on time.
Stay put
